Mail.ru Reduces Lifetime 1TB Cloud Storage Promo to Standard 8GB Limit
Mail.ru is notifying a small group of long-term users that the 1TB of free storage awarded during a 2013-2014 promotion will be reduced to the standard 8GB quota.
Home users of Mail Cloud who received the lifetime terabyte are now seeing individual deadlines in their inboxes. One notification sets the storage reduction for 30 October with permanent deletion of excess files scheduled for 30 January 2027; another user was given a deletion date of 3 February. Because each account receives its own timeline, there is no single company-wide cut-off date.
The company told Kod.ru that the change affects less than 0.5 percent of Mail Cloud users. Basic service and the standard free quota remain unchanged. According to the service documentation, once storage exceeds 8GB, new uploads, edits, and sharing are disabled while downloads stay available.
Users have three months to download files or purchase additional space. After that period, excess files are moved to the trash and permanently deleted 14 days later.
The terabyte was originally granted for installing the Mail.ru application between 20 December 2013 and 20 January 2014. Support cited the license agreement when users questioned the change. A comparable rollback of 100GB lifetime storage took place in 2024.
